'Ruby Drifts' begins with a hypnotherapy session the artist undertook as they searched for guidance in a moment of uncertainty. Looking internally for answers at a point when their life in London had come to an end, the experience provided a gateway to the possibility of a rekindled love for their birthplace. Unsure of the route home, they were left lost as to how they would return. Ultimately a journey across Europe and it's many lands and peoples led them back to where they began - invigorated and with a new found sense of what 'home' could mean to someone who had lost touch with the power of family, stability and love.
Ruby Drifts is a collection of untouched field recordings stitched together to form a collage of Europe's pulse - construction work from a ventilation shaft in London, the sounds of the ferry crossing the harbour in Amsterdam, a timber workshop in Sweden, children leaving school for the day in Denmark. These are interspersed with lost reel-to-reel tape recordings the artist found in a jumble sale on their travels - esoteric offerings such as unknown gameshow soundtracks and forgotten incidental music - none of which played at the right speed when loaded on the player. Kick back, turn the volume up high and drift off on a journey across Europe; guided by its natural, societal and man made sounds.
