"I just can't deal with hi-hats right now"

It could have been a mistake to set up the PA in the Hall - the emptiness of the space meant that reverberations multiplied and crashed in on themselves in a ominous feedback loop of vibration. The evening's activities had left him in a giddy state of trepidation and suddenly the folders of music were heralding no results - each title his eyes landed on leaving him bristling more.

"I just can't deal with hi-hats right now" he either thought or muttered. It didn't matter which. The silence was deafening.

The screen began to melt.

In a panic he opened a folder named Chimess - Lost (4) and clicked on a random track. It began in silence but he could already make out the pressure building in the subs. A sound responsive light glimmered slightly then rested again. He made his way over to the speaker and perched himself on top of it - gazing over the length of the hall to his friend, who was laid out on a beanbag, staring intently at the hall's industrial ceiling - all vents and tubes and metal.

The light flickered more - gently warming the walls. The bass became louder - shaking his body. A flash of white noise rose into the ceiling above, shimmering in a ghostly fashion - gentle drops of static dripping down on his forehead. Someone walked into the room and backed out slowly. They weren't to be blamed.

At this point as each rotation of the loop lumbered along, it brought new found intensity with it. The light was glowing, burning - a stark electric yellow that cast manic shadows along the walls and across the face of his beanbag occupying friend - he was now sat upright in the bedding, his eyes ablaze with magic. They sat staring at each other - forgetting the hall, forgetting the rest of the group who were outside in the rain dancing around a raging fire, forgetting hi-hats, forgetting life. The bass rumbled along and engulfed them both.

Lost.

-------------------------

Started before my KAGAMI Smile project, Chimess relies strictly on minimalism and repetition to create layers of claustrophobia to represent how things decay over time, even in such a mechanical and technologic world. I was influenced by Brutalist architecture when making this album and listening strictly to artists such as GAS, Positive Cenre, and S Olbricht. I hope you enjoy the album as "Lost" is about alienation in a seemingly interconnected and mechanised world.

Shout out to House of the Leg, MOD-COMM 81, Positive Centre and Ppueblo respectively.

Thanks
KAGAMI/Chimess
